Abstract

The purpose of this project is to explore the potential and impact of oil and gas drilling in and around U.S. National Parks. The current administration is considering the alteration of rules regarding drilling in National Parks, with energy independence being one of the goals. While this is a desirable outcome, there are many factors to consider when removing rules that protect unique and important environments and habitats. We will have several goals in mind as we research this topic. We will determine: 1) whether there will be a significant economic or social benefit to such operations. 2) how these operations will impact the environment. 3) the infrastructure required to carry out these operations and their impact on the landscape. This will help us understand whether drilling in and around National Parks should be allowed.
